Distress Stains and Sticky Back Canvas

I just signed up for May Flaums new class, "the Curios Scrapbookers Field Guide", over at BPC. Just two days in I´m already loving it :-) It is still not to late to sign up, so come join me for 12 weeks of brilliant fun!

We were talikng about Distress Stains over at the class forum and I wrote about my Distress Stains and Sticky Back Canvas backgrounds, and promised to post some photos on my blog, so here they come!

This is the first one I made, and I´ve posted a really bad photo of it before. I was inspired by a YouTube video that I can´t find.

I started out stamping with the Distress Stains using Tim Holtz Bitty Grunge stamp set, Music Background from Hero Arts and Old French Writing from Hero Arts. I then stamped using Matt Multimedium (Claudine Hellmuth) on a Donna Downey foam stamp (Prima).

When all this was dry I used a variety of red and pink Distress Stains to color all of the canvas, spraying with water to make the colors blend better.

This is my second background. I actually won a contest with it! I used golden Shimmer Spritz on this one, so it has a lovely sheen to it.

I also used my Old French Writing stamp on the wood "paper" from Creative Imaginations and cut out letters using the Chip Block die from Tim Holtz and Sizzix.

This is my latest creation. I´ve developed it a tiny bit more, and stamped on top of the "finished" background using StazOn in black and Opaque White

The border surrounding the background is stamped using black StazOn and a border from the Romantique Stamp set from Prima.

The faint circles you can see in this photo is stamped using the Opaque White StazOn. I love how it came out!

These photos clearly shows that I need to take one of the " holiday photos" classes! But that will be next year :-) I got a gorgeous vase from my sister for my birthday. It was perfect to hold my "fake" Christmas tree. In Norway we normally don´t decorate the tree until the evening of the 23rd, but I really want my flat to have some of that jolly Christmas feeling! I got some wonderful branches and decorated them with small red and silver hearts. I also got a new Advent star (a Norwegian tradition) and some lights for my kitchen window. I love it!

On the 3rd my BFFs came from Oslo to celebrate my birthday. We started out with Elise and breakfast in her brand "new" house. The day continued with a visit to the aquarium, were we got to see Santa feed the fish in the HUGE tank. After that we went to take photos in a studio. We did the same in 1997 and it was so much fun! The day ended with an amazing meal at a restaurant and home made chocolate cake at home. It was a great day!

A bit late, but I did it on the day! I´m so happy with my self :-) This is actually a story from the 28th of November, my 30th birthday, but it is one of the most important Christmas traditions on the farm so it had to go in the album.

We make all the traditional Norwegian Holiday food from scratch on the farm, and us «kids» have been involved with that forever. It was just one type of meat we use on our bread we did not make together with the adults. It was my favorite, and the chock when I walked into my Grannys kitchen to face a huge pig head was just to much. I didn´t eat it for years. I´m over it now though, and I´m learning to make it so that I can keep the tradition alive when I get my own family.

This story is about Mør (it´s a sausage). We start out by grinding the meat, then we add spices (sometimes we add the spices to the meat before we grind it because it´s easier to mix it in that way). While making the meat/spice mix we have to make «prøvekake» (mini burgers to test the seasoning) and it is so much fun! It´s the only taste we´ll get until the 24th. When everyone is satisfied with the amount of salt, pepper and all that stuff it is time to make sausages. When I was young we used a sausage horn (these words aren´t in the dictionary so I make them up) that we turned manually image of "pølsehorn"), now we are using a huge industrial grinder and everything is so much faster. In the end I think we made about 25kg, and we use it as Christmas gifts for relatives :-)

I made a photo collage template to fit the photos I wanted to use. After printing I "framed" them using a Faber-Castell Pitt artist pen in copper.

I had to get my aunts recepie for pork sausage and had to write it on the closest paper available. I think adding the envelope makes the story come to life!

I did some journaling, and added a list of the different types of sausages we made. We ended up making 5 types!

Two posts in one day! This is crazy! I want to share my first pages for my first Dec Daily Album. I was considering doing one last year, but I got the "I have no kids what do I have to scrap" feeling for the first time. As December progressed I realized I had loads of things to document and I regretted not doing it so much! Of course, I hit a huge obstacle the first day as my printer decided to display an error message not mentioned on the HP page... Luckily I had a backup plan!

I started out with an 5"x8,5" album from We r Memorykeepers as I could not justify getting the Studio Calico kit just for the chipboard album.

It felt kind of drastic to gesso the beautiful album, but I love how it turned out!

It´s difficult to see, but I´ve embossed the front using white UTEE and Sparkeliscious Enamelz from Shimmerz Paints.

I don´t think I´ll be making a cover page as the album is already full and I am still to add quite a lot of the foundation pages...

It´s so strange, the longer it takes to create that post, the more important it gets... All of a sudden the task is so huge that it seems impossible to do. That is what has happened to my blog! I was so excited to share my new studio, and I wanted it to be just perfect when I made the post. But, I use my space all the time, so it is never «perfect», and the post never got written. I´ll create that post soon, it is all written out, I just need to take the photos!

Huge things are happening though. On the 30th of September my brother and I will be opening an online store called kaBoks. So far we have gotten a great Design Team with 10 digital and hybrid designers.

Sara, one of the designers, decribed what we want to do beautifully:

«The philosophy behind kaBoks, Siri's new online scrapbooking store, is to break down the walls that exist between the various scrapbooking communities. kaBoks will be a store that will not only bridge traditional, hybrid, and digital scrapbooking, but will target different religions, ethnicities and languages by offering a wide variety of products that speak to inspired creatives around the globe. There will also be a special department called "kiddy scrap" filled with less serious products aimed at crafting for kiddos! or for us big kiddos at heart ;)»

I made this LO using Tim Holtz new Distress Stains, sticky back canvas from Claudine Helmuth and foam stamps from Donna Downey. At the moment it is at display at the LSS to show off the Distress Stains!

I'm still figuring out the hole iPhone photo thing, and the ligthing in the LSS is not the best so you just have to bear with me until I get it! At least I'm blogging again!

Life is just too much at the moment. I wish I could relax and enjoy life as much as DD Rolf does! At least my old phone has retired, and I can play with my new iPhone 4! I'll post some LOs and cards over the weekend, if my head allows!

project (new) life part 8

I´m slowly getting there! Everything is coming together, the craft studio is almost finished, we need to do the grout in the kitchen, add the front to the dish washer and add knobs to the doors. There is some finishing touches left with paints, and then it is all done!! (If the electrician finishes, that is...)

When I got home to my mac a couple of days I got a huge surprise, Stacy Julian had made a post with a card I made for her last summer. It was so much fun to get to know that she got it! And after that over 200 people have come my way from her blog. Amazing!

I also have a card to share, before the main event, my new life!

I´ve used a stamp from Ippity, PP from Grapich 45 and cardstock from Core´dination and Bazzill.

I went to a consert last night with my Granny and her SIL... It was Odd Nordstoga, the hottest guy on earth (my Granny and I agree on this point) (If he was single we would fight over him)

He has written this song, Lause ting (Loose treads), and the chorus sums up my brain function at the moment:

"Altfor mange lause ting, altfor myrke krokar, altfor mykje skummelt rot,
altfor store flokar, altfor store rom, altfor mange ord,
altfor mange gode råd gjev altfor mykje å tenke på."

I´ll try to translate it:

"Way to many loose treads, way to dark corners, way to much scary mess,

I love using calendars on my LOs, but I don´t like using calendars in English on my LOs. So, yesterday I made a 2011 calendar I want to share with my Norwegian readers. (I will be creating it in English and Spanish as well)

I´ve made them to fit inside the "Slim Paper Punch Large 2.25" Scallop Circle" from EK Success. (They will of course fit inside any circle punch, you just have to scale the print up or down) If you open the PNG in Word you can also change the color of the calendar before printing. (Just write a comment if you wnat me to create a tutorial about this)

Category Story January promt

This is my take on the january promt "_____ freaks me out" from Category Stories.

I´ve called mine "so many things freak me out", and writing all kinds of stuff using my Indian Ink and a pen nib. It is not really meant to be read, I just wanted to get it out on paper so to speak.

I used the De vines felt stems from Prima as masks, and misted the LO using one of my Shimmerz Vibez. I then drew around the edges using my pen with nib and Indian Ink.

I´ve finally done a challenge! It´s been a long time, and it was so much fun! I used a one of the papers from Graphic 45 steampunk debutante collection. It had a flying man on it, and he didn´t really do that much for my LO, so I went crazy with my Shimmerz and Vibez :-) It was very difficult to get a good photo because of all the shimmer and glitter. You know how paper bend when you load it up with too much mist without letting it dry!

A new post?

Who knew that I would post something this quickly! I was not planning to do a new one until tomorrow, but I jsut have to share this wonderful project/product that my fellow AoD graduate, Deb, has available on her blog. (AoD: the Art of Digital Design, a class about digi design from Jessica Sprauge).

Deb designs under the name of Crafty Queen, and she really is a queen when it comes to design! She has a project, or product, available on her blog called "My Crafty Journal"

I love the idea of having my own crafty journal to document ideas, projects and promts in, so I´ve just downloaded the January pages. I´m going to get them printed out, and then start the search for a proper binder for them!

I must admit that I have not worked with it yet, but the design of the journal looks so great, so it must be good:-) I don´t think she would spend so much time designing something that is not great, don´t you agree? So, pop over to the Crafty Queen blog, and give her some love! I know she will be thrilled :-)

Pretend it is the first week of January ok?

I need your help to take me back in time a couple of weeks, and that this is the first post of the New Year, and that it is the 2nd of January. I needed some time to get over the beginning of the new year, and then Liv Torill died, and everything just became less importaint.

The Holiday Season is always the best time to be depressed. There is just nothing like the feeling of not beeing filled with joy in a joy filled time to make life sparkle I think! (and yes, I´m beeing ironic). New Years Eve was hard as well, just knowing that I´m entering the the forth year of depression. My medication takes away the really bad bits, but during happy days it also gets very obvious that they take away the joy as well! It stinks.

Thinking back at 2010, I know that I have achieved so much. Some of my goals turned out to be less importaint than I thought, and some turned up along the way.

Recap:

February: I sold my flat in Drammen, and officially turned my back to my old life as an Interior Architect on my way to success.
March: Bought my flat in Ålesund
April: I was guest designer over at Category Stories, held my first two classes at a crop in Oslo, and did a demo at a second crop.
May: Was asked if I wanted to start working at my LSS, sold 50 cards in one weekend, started The Art of Digital Design over at Jessica Sprauge.
June: Finished AoD and got great reviews from Carina Gardner on my first Digi Kit.
July: Worked started for real in my flat. Started @Home with Claudine Hellmuth over at BPC
September: My first class at LSS
October: two classes at LSS, I got my first pay check in almost three years, my first bloghop, Fun with Fabric with Donna Downey over at BPC
November: Second blog hop, my 29th birthday, fitted my new kitchen
December: Got through Christmas

I didn´t publish that many LOs last year, and the reason is documented in the photos below:

I made albums for my sister and my two brothers for Christmas (a total of over 100 LOs). I know they pop by my blog from time to time, and too many LOs about them would probably seem suspicious. Even to them ;-) I´m so glad they liked them!

I´ve decided not to set myself specific goals for 2011. I have so many huge things that I have to get through, so I will be trying to focus on them. (I just realised that FOCUS whould be my One little word for 2010. Maybe I´ll join in Ali Edwards year long class over at BPC (has anyone discovered my thing for classes by now?)). I do have a dream of beeing a DT member over at Category Stories, but I know I will not be able to keep up right now, so I´ll just try to get the challenges done.

I had big plans for a huge blog candy when my blog got 20 000 hits, but then the imp counting my hits decided to eat 8000 of my hits, so I kind of lost my spirit. This did give me a push to get a Wordpress site (hosted on my own domain), so I´ve decided to do my giveaway when that site gets up and running. It will still be www.sirifjortoft.com, but more like I want it to be, and less like blogger tells me to do things.

It turns out that I have some goals for 2011 even though I´ve told my self not to have any:

I´m moving in to my new flat, living alone for the first time int 3 years, having to take care of eating, opening my mail and cleaning my clothes (and yes, this is at times very difficult)
I have to go through all the boxes of stuff from Drammen that I have not seen since the freezer from hell, and that will take me back to my previous life
I´m getting my wordpress site up and running

I´m also hoping to:

do more design work
get my first stamps produced

(I´m so bad on New Years resolutions!!!!)

This was going to be the post about my Christmas, about my plans for the New Year, about my changes to my blog and so much more. I have to leave that for the next one.

Because, on Thursday, Liv Torill, the owner of the LSS where I work, passed away. She has been ill for a long time, but no one expected this to happen. She was only 40 years old, and now her husband and two sons have to get through life on their own.

I´m on my way to town to help prepare some things for the funural...

I hope you´ll have a great week, and that you take some time to show someone close to you how much you care.

Who would guess that I could fall in love with glitter? And paper wreaths? This is the second one I´ve made, the first one is on display at the LSS. I´me actually considering to get all the Stickles (Because if I start something, I´ll go all the way....)

I´m also doing Tim Holtz 12 tags of Christmas this year. I´ve only done 4 yet, but I still have some days left before the 24th! This has made me realize that I "need" all the Distress Ink Pads. (And also the refills, because I want to do this! )

October/November sketch challenge from Magpie Club

Finally, I´m ready to post some LOs! The first one is the last sketch from Julie Bonner, over at Magpie Club (the BEST kit club in the world). I totally love this sketch, and it was perfect with the October kit from Magpie Club. (This one is sold out, but the December kit has just gone live)

This LO is called "we´ve created all of this", and is a quote from my Grandpa. He said this on one Christmas Eve, while he was surrounded by his family, and his voice was so proud. I do think it was his last Christmas, and I will never forget it. I guess I have to add this as journaling!

LO with a photo with my brother and I one spring day. I love the tinsel ribbon from Webster´s pages, and thought it would be fun to use it to "symbolize" the bright green grass.

I think this might be one of my favorite LOs. I wanted to use kraft paper form my butterflies, and do a really bright and shiny background. I have a bunch of cardstock that I don´t like the color of, so this is my supply for crafty stuff. I started out covering the paper with gesso, creating texture using a paint spatula(?). The I used three Vibez spritz to color the background. I chose the colors from Monicas dress. I´ve used a rubon for the title: "this smile - I live for this smile"

project (new) life part 6

Finally, some more photos from the flat! It is no longer so horrid, but still far from a home :-P I´m also in the process of making my blog more "me". For now that is white, but there will hopefully be some more exciting stuff happening later. I´ll be adding some more freebies, and as I´m getting closer to 20 000 hits, there will also be one massive blog candy. You do not want to miss out on this!

My sister Marte, and her boyfriend Martin, (isn´t that funny??? M&M hihihi) are getting ready to give the old kitchen doors some TLC.

I was born a designer, loving colours, craft and all things that would make a mess. In my former life, I was an Interior Architect, University Degree and all. Now I´m working part time at my LSS and spending the rest of my time holding classes, crafting and designing. I´ve been paper crafting for about 18 months, and scrapbooking for a year, and I knew I wanted to design my own stuff from the beginning.

When designing, I do not think digital/traditional scrapbooking. I just think scrapbook. Would I like to use this element on my LOs? What is it that I´m craving for when looking for my next buy? This has lead me to one important decision, all my sentiments will be available in multiple languages. For now that is English, Spanish and Norwegian. I´m Norwegian, and I scrapbook in Norwegian :-)  I am also planning to add SVG files for my labels, swirls and word art, so that the lucky owners of (many) digital die cutters will be able to print and cut my elements to use them in their scrapbooking!

To celebrate the fact that I am now Certified Digital Designer, I´ve joined in on a blog hop that will take place from the 14th to the 18th of October! This is so exciting!

When desiging, I do not think digital/traditional scrapbooking. I just think scrapbook. Would I like to use this element on my LOs? What is it that I´m craving for when looking for my next buy? This has lead me down many roads, but the most importaint one is the fact that all my sentiments will be avaialble in multiple languages. For now that is English, Spanish and Norwegian.

I´ll start out by sharing a little sample of my first kit. The hole kit has 60 papers, one alpha and about 120 elements, all divided into different packs so that you can pick and choose what you like. No need to fill op our harddrives with things we will not use! Just click on the preview and it will start downloading straight away :-)

Just a little update :-) I´m in Oslo at the moment, on Thursday I´m visitning my sister in Bergen. Just taking a week off might be just what I need! It´s a tiny bit busy at home, with work and the refurbish... I´ve been feeling a bit squeesed, I hope this week will help my head back in shape... I´m just on my way out to have lunch with my cousin, and I´m listening to the last PRT for the nth time. I´ll be back!

Just a few photos to show the progress in the Horrid Flat!

I´ve opened up the wall between the hallway and the kitchen, allowing light from the kitchen window to flow into the previous dark and dingy room.

This is how the livingroom was looking after the walls had new plaster boards and the floor was sanded down.

Yesterday my cousin and I was putting up the wallpaper in the kitchen. Unfortunatly I forgot that I´m having recessed downlights by the walls, so that I did not need to hang the wallpaper all the way up. The result was that I had too little wallpaper, had to order more, and now have to wait two weeks for it to arrive! Bummer...

I love it!

Of course, I had to take a photo of the view from the sofa on the balcony/6th floor conservatory. I could look at it for hours! And I even love the containers. No noice, because they all arrive by boat, and I´m so facinated by how they stack them all up like that! I would totally have misjudged the distance and they would all have fallen down...

I know I´ve been a bit quiet lately, but life has just taken over my life, so to speak... Working, redecorating, taking and holding classes.. Some days it just gets a bit to much! On top of that my camera disapeared for a while (it turned out that it was lying nice and quiet in the car). I found it, went for a walk with my mom, my cousin and two dogs, and while filming a muddy bath my camera had no more memory left! Oh my, this has never happened before. I´m sure it was a sign from the crafty gods... So here I am, with a selection of my latest cards, some I like, some I don´t like. But I show it all! I´ve been playing with some new techniques, and I hope you like them!

Some of the stuff I ordered for my LSS arrived last week, and of course I had to buy loads of it! Using these tools for the first time was mindblowing. At least as mindblowing a pair of siccors and an acrylic stamp block can be! I just realised that both of the products are from Fiskars...

First:

Suddenly, I got perfect impressions at the first try. LOVE IT! BUY IT!! You won´t regret it! No I just want to stamp things, just to see how gorgeous they turn out ;-P

And these siccors?? AMAZING! (Just click on the images to get to read about them. And I did buy them with my own money!)

Now.... if I only could find them in the mess I´ve created today... I´ve started to plan my next class. It´s going to be a card folding class, and so far I´ve finished 4 cards. I think I´ll add one more, and thats it :-) My plan is to get everyone to create templates to take home, so that they can create their own cards. I figure that learning different techniques and ending up with templates will be better than making one and decorate it!

Finaly, I found the time not only to do a challenge, but post it as well. This LO/art thingy is made for this months Category Stories challenge. The promt is ---- is my sunshine, and I desided to make this into "Laughter is my sunshine". I don´t think that needs an explanation!

At them moment I´m playing @home with Claudin Hellmuth and I´ve learned so many fun techniques using paint! I soo wanted to do something using them, and this is what "happened". I´ve also gotten hooked on Donna Downeys inspiration wednesday videos. As soon as I settle in to my new studio, I´ll be starting my own inspiration journal :-)

Just a quick update in my suddenly busy life... I´ve decided on a wallpaper for my bedroom. It´s from Sanderson and is called Swallows. I LOVE it!

I´ve also ordered the new floor model of the Clip-it-up from Scrapbook.com:

It will be the new home for my Ippity stamps, my Thickers, my Magpie club kits and much more....

I´ve also made my first ever mini album. It´s on display at the LSS, I´ll take photos on Wednesday at work... It´s called "it´s a dogs life", and its all about my DD, Rolf...

I´ve been spending loads of time deciding on paint colors, storage solutions for my studio, tiles for the bathroom.... My head is spinning! But, I´ve ordered my kitchen today, it was so extremely scary!

This is the one I ended up with, its oak, from Ikea. I´m getting the worktop from a different store. It will be dark gray, hopefully the same color as the floor...

I also took some photos at the LSS, were I work. It is so cosy, so I just have to share! Its not the largest place in the world, but we try to fill every nook and cranny...

I´ve also made quite a few LOs lately. All the stress from project (new) life makes scrapbooking even more importaint to me. It keeps me sane! I made this LO one day at work, to show of some alcohol inks and the rose ribbons from Websters...

Hi everybody!

I´m just starting work at my LSS, Familieminner (Family memories), and OMG how much fun I´m having! Not only do I get to help customers with selecting colors, showing them different techniques and stuff, but I also get to create using all the new stuff for displays in the shop! And I don´t need to pay for it!! AHHH... the joy! I´ll take a photo off one of the new LOs next time I´m at work...

I´m enjoying Claudine Hellmuths class over at BPS so much! Only problem is that she start every new task with "clear up your working space..." This has been haunting me, and today I´ve jumped in! The last three hours has gone into putting all the stuff that need to be sorted into boxes (I´m not kidding, my dog wanted me to lift him into his corner), and cleaning the shelves and such. I hate organizing stuff into dusty shelves and messy boxes so I always have to start with that... Of course I did not take a phot, but imagine a bomb in a studio, that has been left and piled up on for two months....

Today is the last day of a five weeks intense class over at JS, and I´m so sad it´s over! I´ve created my first ever digi kit, my very own paper and embellishment designs. I´ll be sharing some of it here as a freebie later :) I´ve created this digi LO using my kit:

It´s been so much fun, and I can not wait to get started on my next project. I´m just doing the finishing touches to my simply rustic kit, getting it ready for the practical part of our certification exam, and then I´ll be jumping in to get started on the next one!

Luckely, I´m starting a new JS class on the 28th.

Its a free class, and if you´ve never taken a class with Jessica I would truly recomend you to jump on this chance! I can not wait to see what new goodies she has to share :)

I´m also getting ready to visite Claudine Helmuth @ home. She is teaching a 12 weeks class over at BigPictureScrapbooking, and I can not wait to get my hands dirty with paints and inks again. Digi design is all good, but I need ink stained nails to feel alive!!

I´m hoping to make some LOs this week, it´s been a long time since I made one. I´ll share as soon as I get started!

This weekend we have been celebrating my Granddads 80th birthday. We´ve had a full house, 17 people and four dogs. It´s been great fun, but I think that both my dog and me have been a tiny bit too stressed out... I´m still not as well as I think! My aunt and uncle are staying for a couple days more, and they will be helping me/us find a solution to Rolfs fear of men/need to protect me. My aunt is a certified dog trainer, and both of them have been training search and resque dogs for years. I know that as soon as we get this sorted out, both Rolf and I will get a much less stressful life :-)

Paperclipping Festival

On the 22.June Noell is hosting the Paperclipping Fastivale over at paperclipping.com . Its a showcase of LOs created after beeing inspired by one of the Paperclipping video tutorials, and I would highly recomend you guys to pay her a visit, and maybe become a member of Paperclipping! At first I became a member to support Noell and Izzy, and not so much for the videos, but after watching them I can truly see a difference in how I approach scrapbooking.

So, if you still haven´t discovered Paperclipping, now is clearly the time! I have fallen in love :-) Noell (and Izzy) has great video tutorials, but to me, the most fantastic thing is their Paperclipping Roundtable podcast. They have also just started The Paperclipping Digi Show, and that is just as great! As I spend most of my time in my studio, either scrapping, blogging or bloghopping I´ve been listening to PRT and PSD several times a day. They have become my crop friends!

What I love about Noells style of scrapping, and the video tutorials, is that its so adaptable to different styles. (And she´s thought me how to use all those fab Hambly transparencies and rubons I keep buying but never use..)

For this LO about me it´s easy to see how I´ve picked up tips from Noell. The episodes that come to mind are these:

I made this page for one of the challenges over at ACOTs NSD crop. We had to use a photo of ourself, and an Eigthies color scheme.

I didn´t journal on this page, because I thought my choise of title said it all: "I like going against the grains" The title describes how I don´t always go the expected way, do the expected thing, make the expected choice, and I´m very happy with it :-)

I´m taking Jessica Sprauegs "The Art of Digital Design" right now, and I´ll probably be quite silent for a while... Its a college-level class about designing digital kits for scrapbookers, and its VERY time consuming. I´m loving it though, and I´m learning so so much!

I got the most amazing news!! Yesterday I was asked if I want to start working at my LLS, and if I want to hold classes there!! I´m just so amazingly happy!!!

I have to do a happy dance, but since I don´t have a camera, I´ll let Will and Carlton do te honors...

As some of you know, I haven´t been working for three years due to a serious depression and panic attacs. This is just such a major step forwards, and just what I wanted to do!!!! Now I just need to get my flat sorted out, so that I can move into town :-)

As a part of my back-to-work training I have made my knowledge as an interior architect available for the users of the largest online scrapbooking community in Norway. So far I have finished one scraproom design, and I´ve got 5 or 6 more on my waiting list.

I am sure that some of the issues addressed in these designs will be valid in many crafting spaces, so I decided to share my work with the world. That is why I have crafted a second blog, where I will showcase my ideas. As my health improves, this might be a service I will be able to offer to even more people!

If anyone has any questions about the designs posted here, or any of the furniture used just post a comment! I can also be reached by mail.

This blog will be updated with new drawings and designs as soon as I finish them. I will also post clever storage ideas and furniture finds my design work turns up. If you have any solutions that could be useful for other crafters that you want to share, please send me an email to the address above. What happened? I don´t understand... I just realised that I haven´t updated my blog in almost 2 weeks, and it just feels wrong, because I have so much to share! (Anyone else had that experinece? I find it difficult to blog when there is too much to say...)

I´m working my heinie off working on Jessica Sprauges Digi in Deep class. (Imagine if that was possible...) But you don´t do digi scrapbooking Siri? Well, no... But, on the 24th Jessica is starting a class called "The Art of Digital Design"

The Art of Digital Design is a revolutionary class for new digital designers to learn the secrets of creating, packaging, uploading, marketing, and selling digital product. I've been asked for years to teach a class that reveals the insider information about how to design items such as patterned papers, brushes, stickers, alphabets, and other elements used in digital scrapbooking. If you've wanted to dip a toe into the design world, with a desire to make and possibly SELL your own digital kits, OR if you've already started down the path, but you're finding the lack of clear information confusing, this is the class for you!

And I can not wait! Maybe I´ll do some digi designs for sale, but my dream is to design papers and such, and I figure that the prosess can not be that different... I´m soooo excitec, I just can´t hide it....

Also, I got a phone call from my LSS late on Monday evening, wondering if I would come and work on Tuesday. I was in heaven! I started work training there in August 09, but my boss got really ill, so I had to stop. Now she is getting back in the game, and wanted me to be at the shop when she is working. I´ll be there once a week, and it feels great :-)

Just so that I don´t bore you to death, I´ll share a LO I made some time ago about my DD. Its a doubble LO, and the theme is the four seasons.

I´ve used four different songs, each about the spesific season, both on the trees and as a title for the photo.

The title is : Rolf enjoys life, regardless of season...

Crazy, thats all I can say... This morning DD didn´t even bother to get up, because he was sure I would be sitting in front of the computer all day anyways.. (he got up about 2 hours after me... didn´t even want to go outside until 12...)

I didn´t do as many LOs as I planned, but I did make at least one that was so incredible time consuming. I do love how it turned out though! This is a photo heavy post! (But I´ve made them smaller, so hopefully they will not take that long to load...

two of lifs joys: pajamas & icecream

I´ve made the background of this LO using Kraft cardstock (Bazzill), Gesso and Shimmerz Vibez. It was difficult getting a good photo of it, the closeup is the one with the best color. I´ve used ribbon for the grass and the "flower stems", the rubons are from imaginisce. The flowers are made by fabric (I covered the fabric with ModPodge and left it drying over night. The roses are made using the technique that Lollychops taught in this video tut. The lollipop flowers are made by cutting circles...

Journaling:
We´re shopping at Armstrongs. When we found this gold leotard and tutu there was no going back...I still think you should have bougth it! The outfit made you glow!

This is one of the LOs I´ve made from a trip with my BFF Elise to London in 2008. I LOVE the letter stickers from K&Company. Like typwriter "knobs"... I did this at one of the crops I wnt to a couple of weeks ago as well... (Only about 16 left to share!!)

It´s National Scrapbook Day tomorrow (not in Norway though), and I´m joining in on the fun over at ACOT this weekend. Its the NSD crop! I love online crops. No packing, no oh my I wish I had that photo/ink/stamp/punch/paper. My goal is to join in on 10 of the 18 fast scraps (If I can get out of bed at 6.45 am). There will also be 20 other challenges, and I´m hoping to get about 15 of those done.... So, I´ll be busybusybusy....

Other things I want to share:

do have a listen to the Paperclipping roundtable. I adore it! I find myself waiting for Thursdays and new episodes, and I listen to it while I scrap or when travelling (sitting on the airport, listening to my iPod and giggeling...)

A nasty photo of my sisters early days.... I love it :-) I´ve fallen in love in using Thickers in the same color as my background paper. I feel like I can get away with using large fonts when doing that!

The title is from a Norwegian childrens song about rowing your boat out to go fishing... I think it fits this photo of my younger brothers perfectly! I´ve used Core´dination cardstock (my one and only true cardstock love) for the background, just tearing it up into waves and layering them. The stamped fish are from the Fishy Philosophy set from Ippity stamps, and I´ve stamped them using Perfect pearls in Perfect Pearl.

Finally, the first LO from last weeks crop extravagance! One of the prompts the first weekend was "project gone bad". Oh, I´ve had such a great time! 20 LOs done in the last 10 days, 100s of fab people met, tons of chocolate consumed... Today we´ll drive back home, and tomorrow I´ll start showing off the LOs I´ve created :-)

So many plans, so little time. And the I get this horrible cold, and have to stay in bed....

My plan for this week was to show you all of the LOs I made last weekend at the crop. Now, my new and improved plan is to start showing off my work next week, and then add in the LOs I´m making at this weekends crop. If anyone is in any doubt, I LOVE CROPS!!!

I also wanted to share how my class went, and do a lot of commenting on blogs that I have neglected lately. But next week is as good a time as any right?

But now I´ll get some sleep. Because tomorrow I´m going to help set up some shops at the crop!

Finally, I´m able to share my big secret! A couple of months ago I was asked to be Guest Designer at Category Stories in April! I was so proud! I play along at Category Stories every month, its one of the two challenges I do not miss for anything.
I would absolutely recommend you to give it a go! I love how the prompts make my head spin with ideas, and that I have a month to complete it.

This months prompt is My World, and this is my take on it:

The journaling reads:
«Sometimes I feel trapped in my world, I just want to escape from my cage, fly and be free»

The pattern on the background paper is created in Photoshop CS4. I used pills from the «2 health» digi sticker kit from Valerie Randall and created a brush. I use a Bamboo tablet, and made the size change according to the pressure on my pen. That way I was able to create the floating pills that I printed on to my Pattern Paper from Sassafrass Lass (I use a large format photo printer)

Stapling ribbon tip!

Ever wanted to use your Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher to staple ribbon in the middle of your 12"x12" LO and thinking that mr. Holtz really should make a Massive Attacher as well?

I love my Tiny Attacher, but I do not like tools that puts limits on my creativity. If I want to staple something 3" from the edge of my LO or card, then I demand my tools to help me do that (That is why I´ve got the Big Shot and not the Cuttlebug, the Cougar and not a Cricut, a BigBite and not a Crop A Dile).

This made me think, do I buy a new stapler? What can I do to get my ribbon stapled where I want it?

I was looking through all the stuff on my craft table, wondering if there was something I could use, and my eyes fell on to a paper strip cut of a patterend paper. At last, a solution! I could staple my ribbon to the scrap piece of paper, and then glue it to my LO! (Sometimes I feel so clever...) When doing it like this I am even able to move my ribbon around before attaching it to my LO. (As I am a staple first, ask later kind of girl this is a big plus for me... )

It looks like its stapled on right?

Why i have a "hangover" today...

So, how can someone that is teetotaler have a hangover you might ask? (Yes, I am, and have always been, decided when I was 13. No, its not because of religion, or any alcoholics in the family. I just decided that I did not want to support an industry that ruins so many lives all over the world, and I´ve said no to alcohol my hole life...)

Well, here it goes:

09.05 - Flight to Oslo
10.00 - Arriving, eating breakfast and working on my Type + Writer Class LO
10.36 - Train to Drammen

12.30 - Appointment with my psychiatrist
14.00 - Train back to the airport
15.30 - Got through the security at the airport, dinner and working on my LO
17.10 - Flight to Ålesund
18.10 - Meeting up with one of my BFFs and driving to town
19.00 - Got the keys to my new flat, signed the last documents, celebrated the new flat with a toast in Apple Cider. Measuring the hole flat so that I can start working on the layout
20.30 - Boat home - working on my LO
21.30 - My dad picked me up at the boat
22.00 - In bed...

If I was driving, this would have been almost 900 miles....

The last LO from last weekends crop! THis is a photo of my sister on her Confirmation day. She has a beautiful National Costume that my (and her) aunt has sown and embroidered. The stamps, again, are from Ippity stamps. The hand made flower is one of the flowers I´ll teach in my class :-)

I´ve also finaly managed to order Project Life, and I just can´t wait to get my hands on it! My plan is to use it document my journey towards a "new life" in the new flat. I want to add wallpaper samples, different colors I´m thinking about. Just a documentation of my thought prosess and how MHF goes from horror movie to fab designer flat! (And of course I´ll add my thoughts and such as well)

The reason I´m so convinced I´ll be able to do all this journaling, is that I started the Type+Write 1 class over at JS today, and I´m already loving it! I am seriously concidering to join up on T+W 2 as well, as it starts the day after this class ends....

Ok, so getting your kids clothes that they can grow into is a well known idea... But my mom took it to the next level when she got these outfits for my brothers....

I used one of my new Ippity stamps for the bunny, hes got the most cheeky smile and I adore him! Its the first time I´ve stamped on PP like this, and layered it. Great technique, should have done it sooner!

Now I´m of to sign the papers for my new loan for the flat. Then I´m going to look at some design furniture that I can not afford :-)

The third LO from the weekend crop. The photo is taken at the flower market in Amsterdam. It was a strange feeling, walking around looking at all the flowers, and then suddenly realizing that what I´m looking at is weed.... which by the way is legal there... and you could buy "grow your own weed"-kits. Strange, very strange....

Another LO I made during the crop this weekend. This is a LO with the photos of me the first time I was sitting without support. I´m so focused, and looking straight into the camera.... For a few seconds at least. In the next photo a fly has landed on my nose, and I´m trying to look at it... Of course I ended up tipping over. The title is a Norwegian saying, slightly altered.

This LO was made for a fast scrap challenge, we had a sketch, but unfortunatly I don´t remeber who did it. It might have been from Pagemaps...

Its been somewhat quiet in here for a while, but in the "real" world so much has happened! Only one hour ago I got the final clear for MHF! So, now its mine, in all its glory!! It feels great, and at the same time horrible. Its such a huge step on my road to recovery, luckely its will be an extreme makeover, just not done in one week, so I wont have to move out of the comforts of my family home just yet...

I´ve also been asked to hold my first demo next weekend, showing of how to use Shimmerz and Blingz. Thats pretty exciting, and I´m twisting my mind how to showcase them in the best way. I use my Shimmerz all the time, but its a bit different showing others how to use them!

I´ve done a few LOs as well, I can´t show all of them just yet, only my take on Julie Bonners March sketch over at the Magpie Club.

I wass struggeling with last months sketch, but this one just came together like something that comes together really easily ;-)

I´m doing a class over at Big Picture Scrapbooking at the moment called Go Hybrid! So, I included the tasks from the first week, which was to use a didi tag and do my journaling/title work on the computer. I don´t do tags that often, so I enlarged the tag provided in the class and used it as a photo mat. I made journalingstrips in PS as well, and printed it all on my brand new "brown paper packages" paper from Couture Cardstock.

Journaling: Picking bluberries with Grandpa. I think this photo was taken in the fall of 95 or 96. Grandpa is picking, you are eating. Why I´m holding you I have no idea, but at least the weather was nice....

I find it really difficult journaling photos taken so long ago. I figure it is more fun that I write something. "at least the weather was nice" is such a standard sentence used in all kinds of situations, that it makes me giggle adding it to random LOs like this...

My first class!

I´m so excited (and a bit scared)! I´m holding my first class at a crop/sales fair, Scraporama, in April! It will, strangly enough, be a flower class, I´m planning on teaching how to make a hole bunch of flowers. I´ve just made an order with some of the new Prima Flower Centers to add in the class kits (and a bunch of other goodies of course), and I´m writing the class description to post later.

MHF update

I´m still waiting for the preemption to finish at next Monday, but of course my head is spinning away with me. Lindapinda asked if I would have pink kitchen cabinets and the answer is yes, or maybe no. You see I´ve found this amazing wallpaper by Eijffinger:

I SOOOO want this in my kitchen, and I think having pink cabinets will be a bit of an overkill... I do however plan to make crocheted pink curtains. I must have a chat with my right arm and shoulder about this, bcause crocheting curtains will give them severe pains and inflamations. I need to do some negotiations on this point....

Eijffinger als has a wallpaper that might end up in my scraproom... It is so LOUD; red, pink, teal, green, yellow. It has flowers and ribbons and butterflies. And I think it is perfect. I just need to get the rest of the flat to fit to this wallpaper. Its a good thing it has so many colors, because then I can do wathever I want!! (Of course, I could do that anyways... but as I want to get double glass dors from my living room to the scraproom, I want the rooms to fit eachother :-)) (Please note that I did not say match..)

Karen asked what the room with all the windows are, and that is a balcony with double doors from my scraproom. I guess it is kind of like a conservatory, because of the windows, but they are all sliding open, so that it will function as both.

February Sketch Challenge - Magpie Club

This was one tricky sketch I tell you! I made one in the beginning of February, and I was not satisfied, so I decided that I had loads of time to get one more done. Then someone came and stole February, at least I have not seen anything of it since... And here I am, in Oslo, with only my December kit, a couple of photos, scissors and glue. It was a challenge, but I did it!

The photo is of me, Marte and Olav. We have used all the snow to make a snow man and a snow snake... What else is there to make out of snow? The photo was taken in 1991.

And then I would answer.... "Well.... Yes.... I bought a flat today.... " And then I would do a happy dance, and scream!!!! There is some formalities that has to be done before I can sign the contract, But the agent said that I did not have to worrie about those (the offer has been acepted, they have the papers from the bank) The flat has to be put up on a list for preemption people (have no idea how to formulate that the right way....), but she did not think anyone would (be so stupid as) to want it... hehehe

This is a link to photos of the flat... The big pink room will be my scraproom. Everything has to be redecorated. We´ll do the plumbing and bath room, the electricity, the kitchen... Everything. And I´m an Interior Architect, so it will be better! I promise. As for now it will only be called MHF : my horrid flat...

Crazy busy....

February has just been the craziest month in a long time... I finally got an offer on my gorgeous flat in Drammen. It was bought by a 70 years old man, and it feels realy strange knowing that an old man is living in "my" home. I only lived in there for about 2 weeks before I got ill, it was brand new and beautiful and warm and all mine...

The last weeks have been hard. I did not like taking the keys out of my handbag, sending them away, and knowing that I´m never going to be there again. I feel like I never got to close that chapter because of my depression... Anyways... Selling that flat means I have to get a new place to live, after all I can not live with my parents the rest of my life!! I´m still not always trusting my self to choose between apples and oranges, so my Dad and I have been going on viewings in Ålesund. I have quite strange requirements, like a big scraproom and space for a sink to give my dog baths... And preferably a balcony of some sort so that Rolf can sit outside.

Last week we went on a viewing. The flat was soooo ugly... and dirty... and I know someone has died in there, and there was still breadcrumbs on the kitchen counter (the flat was so bad that the relatives of the dead person did not bother to do any cleaning before selling it I guess...) BUT, it has two bedrooms, one "small" one, and one huge! Of course the huge one automaticly became the scraproom, I mean, who needs a great big bedroom? Not me!! And it gets even better. The "scraproom" has a balcony, with views over the mountains and fjord. And there is a fireplace. So, who cares about dead people and seventees wall-to-wall carpets that never has been cleaned? (theres nice wood floors underneath) NOT ME. After all, it has a GREAT BIG SCRAPROOM! (No space to clean Rolf though... but I do have a degree in Interior Architecture, so I´ll figure something out right??) As I´m leaving for Oslo early Monday morning, my parents are meeting the agent and a plumber tomorrow afternoon to get a quote on the costs for fixing the bathroom and the kitchen. And maybe I´ll be the owner of a "new" place next week?

On top of all this, I´m taking a pen tablet class with Jessica Sprauge, I´ve been working on a DT application, I´ve given Rolf a much needed bath (it took 7 hours...), I´ve had realy bad nightmares the last weeks, and I´ve been wakeing (is that even a word?) up at strange hours. And I´ve rearanged my scraproom and done a "deep clean" in there...

I still have a great big list of things to do before Monday, so, to make things less stressfull tomorrow, I started organizing 5000 photos on my Mac... Way to go Siri!!!

I have actually been able to do some crafty stuff as well... I´ve been doing a lot in Photoshop (because of the pen class), I´ve actually done a digi LO as well! Crazy, I know...

This LO is my take on the second February challenge over at the Studio. As always when I just need to do something, but don´t know what, I scrap Rolf. This photo was taken on the 17th of May, the Norwegian National Holiday. As you can see he is all dressed up, with a ribbon in the colors of the flag. Later that day he chewed it to pieces, and now its doing its job as an embelishment on my LO.

The journaling:

" I love my dog. I love celebrating the 17th of May, and eating as much ice cream as I want. I love scrapbooking..."

I just realised that the LO should not have any red or pink on it, so I failed miserably... Well, that fits perfectly with my last week :-) At least I did some crafty stuff!!

I´ve also made a card. I got a big pack of cardstock and chipboard from Couture Cardstock yesterday, and I must say, it is the most fantastic stuff!! You know how cardstock warps when heat embossing? (I know it is not supposed to if you do it right... but I always end up getting that...) The point is that when I embossed this paper, nothing happened! It stayed perfectly flat!! And I cut the bird and the frame out using my craft knife. It cut like butter I tell you, and I even had an oldish blade on it! I can not wait to try cutting it with my Cougar...

This weeks sketch at Skissedilla is made by Dina Wakly. It was so much fun! I finally jumped into scrapping some of the overly cropped photos from a magnetic album me and my mom made when I was 8-10. As there is at least 50 of them, I just need to get it done!!

(I´ve actually maneaged to write the wrong year on this LO. I have no idea how to fix it... AAAAAARRRRGGGGG)

Spinning Owl card

The challenge over at A spoon full of sugar this week was simply to create a free style card. I used my owl that I created when I made my Yarn Owl tutorial. I so thought he deserved his own project!

(It is kraft paper, I promise its not olive green...)

This is how my spinning owl card works!

I hope you´ll ignore the bad quality, as I filmed this using my photo camera and a stack of Distress inks as a tripod...

Folded flower tutorial!

I have used this flower on loads of different projects. What is great about it is that you cn use all different materials; like paper, ribbons, lace, fabric +++

My tut is done using cardstock. I have used a border punch on the edge to create a softer feel but this is not necessary. The only thing that I think is importaint is that the paper strip is 1" wide at the most narrow part of the strip, and 12" long. This gives you a nice round shape. The strip used in this tutorial is shorter, but it makes it more difficult to create a round shape. If you change the width and the length proprtionally, I think you will avoid this problem though :-)

After cutting a 1"x12" strip of paper (+ width of scallop), i just crunch it up between my fingers.

Just let it go on your table and you end up with something like this :-)

Pull it out and start making folds from one end.

I use my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher to staple as I go...

Doing that will leave you with this (as you can see, my strip was a bit to short so it got kind of scrunched up). Now you can ink up the edges, use glimmer mist or spritz, or whatever you can think of.. (Its also really pretty to stamp the strip first, so that the cardstock get some pattern)

This is my finished flower. I´ve added a vintage (real) Mother-of-Pearl button with a brad on top.

Happy Dog/Sad Dog, Sad Siri/Happy Siri

Tara, over at Magpie Club, introduced Wonderweek on monday. Now, her daughter has been admitted to hospital, so the Wonderweek got cut short. I wanted to do her Happy Noodle, sad noodle challenge anyways, just to show my support of her adventure while she was away.

The challenge was to create a LO with two photos, one happy and one sad. I decided to use these two photos of Rolf (Ralph).

The first one is a photo taken after the walk where he was thought (by a a water loving Chespeak Bay Retriver) that mud is fun. I might add that this was the day after I had spent 8 hours grooming, bathing and blow drying him... Obviously, he was happy, I was sad...

The second photo is of Rolf after a bath, before a blow dry.. I´m pretending they are taken the same day, because after that trip I had to spend 4 hours getting the mud and branches out of his fur! So, I´m happy (that he´s getting clean again), and he is sad..

My journaling reads: Happiness and sadness is not always preceided in the same way... Reading that now, I realise I should have written: What makes me sad, might make others happy.... Its too late now!
